Introduction: (Back to Top)

Congratulations! You have been chosen to go on a very special trip down the Erie Canal! It has just been built, and you are being sent to find out what it is all about! You are going to be asked to report back to us when you are finished on your journey, so make sure that you pay attention and find out as much as you can along the way! Good luck and enjoy your trip!

Task: (Back to Top)

Your task is to develop a PowerPoint presentation showing what you have learned about your trip on the Erie Canal.

Process: (Back to Top)

1)  Your teacher will assign you a partner to work with on your project.

2)  Now you are ready to begin!  First, print out the PowerPoint Outline Page to help guide your research.

3)  Use the RESOURCES at the bottom of this page to help you conduct your research on the Erie Canal.  Use this information to complete your PowerPoint presentation.  Record your information (take notes) on looseleaf paper and keep all of your materials in your SOCIAL STUDIES folder.  DO NOT take your folder home.  Your partner must be able to work if you are absent.

4)  After your research has been completed and approved by your teacher, you may start your PowerPoint presentation.  Some items from the outline may only have one slide (your title slide for example) or there may be as many as 3 or 4 slides per topic.  Make sure when you create your presentation, that you and your partner also write down what you will say for each slide because a PowerPoint presentation is a slide show AND an oral presentation of your project.

5)  After you are done with your PowerPoint presentation, you and your partner should practice.  Be sure you can pronounce all the words on your slides correctly and you read in a clear, loud voice so we can hear you.

Conclusion: (Back to Top)

Excellent job!  Did you have fun?  I hope you enjoyed your trip down the Erie Canal.
